June at the STL CW

We have a lot going on in June! Check out next month’s happenings below and plan on joining us for one of our regular get-togethers at 8617 Mora Ln!

Community Prayer
Wednesday June 4th, 6 PM
Join us for this welcoming and informal time of bringing our joys and concerns to the creator and community.

The Serviceberry - Clarification of Thought Book Club
Thursday June 12th, 6 PM
Read the book or just show up to hear the conversation. This month’s clarification of thought topic will center on Braiding Sweetgrass author Robin Wall Kimmerer’s The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World. From the cover:
The serviceberry’s relationship with the natural world is an embodiment of reciprocity, interconnectedness, and gratitude. The tree distributes its wealth—its abundance of sweet, juicy berries—to meet the needs of its natural community. And this distribution ensures its own survival. As Kimmerer explains, ‘Serviceberries show us another model, one based upon reciprocity, where wealth comes from the quality of your relationships, not from the illusion of self-sufficiency.’

Potluck
Sunday June 29th, 5 PM
You can bring a friend or a dish to share, we just hope to see you there.

Upcoming Work Days
June 15th and 29th, 1:30PM
We’ll be catching up on some projects around the community house next month and invite anyone with some extra energy to help us with tasks like building basement shelving and painting our porch. Our work days will start at 1:30 on Sundays June 15th and 29th. You may have noticed the 29th is also the date of our June potluck, we’ll be hanging out working on stuff up until then.

Racial History Tour of Calvary Cemetery + Prayer to Protect Oak Flat

Racial History Tour of Calvary Cemetery 1:00 pm Sunday, October 19 As we approach All Souls Day and Black Catholic History Month, learn about the racial history of Catholic St. Louis by joining us for a tour of Calvary Cemetery. Guided by our friend Dr. Kelly Schmidt (possibly with assistance from Jada Bell and Jeff Harrison), we will visit the burial sites of people whose lives and experiences are significant in shaping the racial history of our church, city, and civil society. The tour will involve standing and some walking over the cemetery’s grassy slopes. Access to restrooms is limited to the Mausoleum (near the cemetery entrance), which we will only be near at the start and end of the tour. Please use the restroom in advance and prepare accordingly. All are invited to join us at the STL Catholic Worker Community house afterwards for soup and post-tour discussion.  The tour will begin promptly at 1:00 pm. Participants have the option to travel between stops either by bike or b...
